MAGFest X
MAGFest X was GREAT.  It was even better having Kris and Donovan there with me.  He had a really good time playing more video games than he'd ever be allowed on a normal weekend, and he LOVED virt's chiptune set.  Being able to see Nobuo Uematsu in concert was absolutely amazing.  It's crazy thinking back to being in high school playing FF6 (back when we all called it FF3), I remember being totally blown away with the music, especially the music during the final boss fight.  And now in 2012, the high point of MAGFest for me was when Earthbound Papas hit the opening chords of Dancing Mad, and my little boy jumped off my lap, turned around and yelled "DADDY!  That's Final Fantasy!"  So good.

Nothing to report

I haven't updated in a while :)  It's pretty much business as usual here.  I work a lot and spend as much time as possible hanging out with my wife and son and playing online with a few other family members.  When I get a chance I do some recording.  I've had tracks on the last few BAD DUDES projects, including the upcoming Heroes vs. Villains project.  The Smash Brothers EP BACON is now available as a free download.  And I've recorded guitar parts for several tracks for the upcoming CD from THE GRAMMAR CLUB.   At some point I should probably release some more stuff here on my own site, huh :)

Also, DINOSAUR TRAIN is a work of genius and I can't believe it took this long for someone to think "Hey, little kids love trains.  And they love dinosaurs.  Let's make an educational TV show about a family of dinosaurs that rides a time-traveling train!"   Now that it's been done, it seems so obvious.

I've been BUSY

OK, so I haven't done an update pretty much since my son was born, but I HAVE been doing a whole lot of stuff.  And a lot of it even involved making music!

For starters, there's  The Smash Brothers, the video game cover band I play guitar in.  We finally have a website. We also recorded a six-song EP we're releasing at  MAGFest 7.  And one of the songs was featured on Penny-Arcade's Child's Play CD!  If you aren't familiar with Child's Play, you should click here.  It's a great charity that donates a LOT of money to children's hospitals around the world.  And the CD features LOADS of internet-famous musicians/groups.  If you need demo clips to convince you that you should help make life more bearable for sick kids by buying this CD go here.  Or just do it for the kids.

Along with The Smash Brothers EP, the finished version of X-Strike Studios' new film Resident Horror will also be making its debut at MAGFest 7.  Most of the soundtrack is Dale North goodness, but I have three or four songs on there as well.  OK, so Dale wrote some of them and I just played guitar or rehashed them.  But "Rookie Action Pack" is all me, as is the un-named chase music with all the wah wah guitars :)

I've also been doing some guitar recording for the internet supergroup The Grammar Club.  It's been a lot of fun, and one of those tracks appears on the Child's Play CD as well!  It's a catchy little number about underbeards.  You know, like when someone shaves their face, but for some reason stops at the sideburns and neckline for that "chinstrap" effect.  Or to quote the song, "You lookin' like Chewbacca did a faceplant into Nair."

At some point I found time to do an arrangement for the upcoming Bad Dudes Chrono Trigger CD .  Obviously "Coming in November" didn't happen, but look for it SOON.

Oh, and I logged over 180 hours in Persona 3 before I finally decided it was time to beat the game already and just skipped through the final month as fast as possible.  A lot (I'm guessing around 100) of those hours were spent with the game sitting on the menu screen while I fed, cleaned, or played with Donovan, though.  So I don't really know how long the game actually is if you don't constantly wander off and leave it sitting for a day at a time.  It sure is a great game, though.  It's definitely one of my favorite 3 PS2 games ever, and the soundtrack is fantastic.

OK, so that was a big update.  See you in 6 months or so :)
