Earthbound is one of those games I completely missed when I was younger, and now I've missed the boat and just can't understand why people are so obsessed with it. The music certainly does cover a LOT of ground, though. And I couldn't really say "no" when my friend Joecam said he was organizing a project to have a bunch of arrangers he really likes cover as much of the soundtrack as possible. I love the Les Paul/Chet Atkins vibe of this track on the OST, and I wanted to do something kind of quirky and fun, so the song choice was kind of a no-brainer. And then, in a moment of inspiration, I sat listening to the song and started banging on an empty Sparks can along with the track. I knew instantly that I would be doing some sampling later on.
tech stuff: I recorded a bunch of different noises to make the drumkit for this mix. I used an empty Sparks can, a pencil, a plastic bag (which I used to carry several cans of Sparks I had purchased), and an empty drinking glass which just happened to be sitting on my desk.
